Bielsa Valley
Bielsa village was founded in the 10th century. It has a privileged location where the Cinca and Barrosa rivers conflude. This typical Aragon Pyrenees town still mantains all its most singular traditions: the "belsetan", a variety of the Fabla dialect spoken in the region, and its carnivals. In its ethnologic museum you will be able to find a grat exhibition of pictures of the "Bota de Bielsa". This museum is is situated in the town's main square, a beautiful example of the Renaissance period and also where the Town Hall is located (a good example of Aragon Pyrenees renaissance palace).
Bielsa has the beautiful 12th century Javierre church that has conservated its 14th century gothic facade and interior. Bielsa is separated from France to the North by mountains more than 3.00 metres high, mountains that become the natural border for the Gistain valley and to which they were communicated by a mountain track that went through the Cruz de Guardia pass. Visit France becomes an easy option, taking the Bielsa-Aragnonet tunnel. Once you are there you can visit the interesting town of Saint-Lary, the lakes resort of d'Oredon, Cap-de-Long, d'Aubert and also the very nearby ski resorts. The Lourdes sanctuary is another interesting destination.
