La Lonja
Between El Pilar and La Seo, alongside the Ebro, the beautiful Lonja rises up; undoubtedly the most important exponent of civil architecture of Zaragoza. Used for trading transactions –especially those propitiated by the river navigation.
The building was started in 1541 and was concluded, as shown by the Gothic frieze that runs round the inside- ten years later, in 1551. With a rectangular ground plan, the outside is quite similar to the Florentine palaces. It has beautiful decoration in the vaults and windows.
