Restaurant Castillo de Ayud, Calatayud

Castillo de Ayud is a small luxury hotel & restaurant located in the center of the charming and picturesque town of Calatayud, only 1hour from Madrid  and 30 minutes from Zaragoza. Restaurant & Hotel Castillo de Ayud is a lovingly restored Belle Epoque luxury country house, a retreat that manages to be chic and rustic.

The Hotel was built originally by the Aragonese family Sanchez Cuenca in the 1920s and was known as Chalet de los Sanchez . The old building has been lovingly restored and converted into a charming establishment, sparing no expense and with meticulous attention to detail.

Using the produce from the local farms the chef prepares the freshest of ingredients for use in his inventive menus, with special emphasis on promoting Aragonese dishes and Calatayud wines. Hotel Castillo de Ayud provides an ample buffet breakfast.

The Romans founded Bilbilis (nowadays Calatayud) and abandoned it in the 2nd century. By the 8th century it was re-populated by the arrival of the Muslims. The Moors were routed here in 1120 by the conquering Catholic forces. Some of the Moorish influence can still be seen in the town.

The Piedra Monastery is 25 km away and is the most visited private Nature Reserve in Europe. The AVE (Spanish high-speed train) links Calatuyud to Zaragoza (30 minutes), Madrid (1 hour) and Barcelona (2 hours). Zaragoza is the closest airport to Calatayud, situated 87 km from the Hotel Castillo de Ayud.

Lunch is served between 1:30pm and 3:30pm and dinner between 9:00pm and 11pm from Wednesday to Sunday. The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday.
