Salvelinus Fly Fishing
The abundance of fish is another attraction in the Pyrenees. There are the famous rivers fished by Hemingway when he was attending the Sanfermines bullfighting fiestas in the 20's and again in the late 50's. With over 800 miles of water courses to choose from, there is every possible combination of fishing condition to experience.
Especially numerous are barbel, Iberian nase and above all trout, both the common and the rainbow varieties, magnificient specimens of which can be caught in the upper course of many rivers, among themthe Segre, Garona, Aragon, Cinca, Gallego, Noguera-Pallaresa, Arga, Esca, Piedra, Esera, Riera de Alp, Ter, Rigat, Fluvia... A curious itim is the fact that otter can be found in the rivers of Aran valley as "el cavilat", a small, much sought after local fish which is famous among sportsmen and gourmets.
Fly fishing on the Pyrenees in the right season and at the right spot, is one of the most exciting, challenging and enjoyable experiences for the subtle fisherman. The Pyrenees is a great choice for general fishing from March to November. June-July is the best season for dry-fly fishing and June-September is ideal for high mountain fishing.
